Hiking will help you build muscle endurance in your legs but it wont help with the altitude. Only proper acclimatization will help along will staying very well hydrated. Spending a 1/2 day at altitude then going back down for a day will help build up the extra red blood cells you need to make up for the reduced ambient pressure and get your O2 sat up. Read more mountaineering books. 🙂
